Liquid Life would like to thank the Perth and Kinross Council on behalf of all our sponsors, competitors and spectators for providing us with the financial assistance that is necessary in putting together an event like this. We are very grateful for this sponsorship and are sure everyone involved feels the same.

We would also like to say a massive thank you to Scottish Hydro Electric for coming to the party and providing us with the water that we need to make this event happen. Without your help we would be left high and dry. Literally.

Also a huge thank you to the Perthshire Tourist Board for additional financial and marketing assistance.

Red Bull have also confirmed their involvement for the 2005 event which is fantastic. Their marquee will again be where the event registration and general headquarters will be based.

Boater x 2005

January 13, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

CampsudThe 2005 event will be exactly the same course as 2004, on the River Tummel below the Coronation Bridge. The start line will be 10m above the first small rapid after the bridge (sometimes known as horseshoe) and the finish line on Loch Faskally, approximately 10m below the 7metre double-drop waterfall. The total distance of the race is in the region of 500m.

The start will be conducted Americas Cup yachting style, with paddlers being informed 20 sec’s, 10 sec’s and 5 sec’s prior to the starting whistle, meaning a rolling start is possible. Any competitor over the line at the sounding of the start whistle of any heat/race will have to paddle into the first eddy on the right after the horseshoe and touch a penalty marker.

“Jostling” for position with paddles and/or boats is expected and accepted. However any intentional holding back of other paddlers by hand at any stage in the race will result in the paddler/paddlers responsible being disqualified.

There will be four categories in the 2005 event comprising of a maximum of 200 paddlers. The break down will be limited to 128 men, 32 women, 16 juniors and 16 masters. Entry will be on a first in first served basis and entry will be confirmed only upon receipt of entry fee.

There will be seeding in both the men’s and women’s classes based on the results from the 2004 boater X. The top 16 men will be seeded and the top 8 woman will be seeded. Should these paddlers not enter the 2005 event the seeding’s will not be replaced.

There will be a cup and a plate division in all categories so every entrant has at least two races.
Rules

False starts will result in the paddler/paddlers infringing having to touch a penalty marker in the designated eddy.

No intentional holding back of other paddlers. Offenders will be disqualified. “Jostling” for position with paddles and/or boats is expected and accepted.

Paddlers must be in their boats over the finish line. Swimming over the finish line will result in disqualification. If you are upside down over the finish line, a successful roll into the upright position must be executed. Failure to do so (i.e. swimming) will result in disqualification.

First over the line wins.

Boat size will be restricted to 2.50m

Bar and food 2005

Don’t go hungry!!

At the Festival this year there will be a range of delicious hot and cold food on sale to competitors and spectators throughout the weekend .

From hot breakfast rolls, homemade soup to yummy chili and chicken dishes as well as wholesome and ‘not so wholesome’ snacks . We will also be serving delicious Fair Trade Coffee as Aberfeldy is Scotland’s first Fair Trade Town and hope to source as much of the fresh produce from local farms and suppliers.

We plan to have a barbecue on the Friday evening when competitors arrive and we would find it really helpful if you could let us know who wants to eat on Friday by emailing Fayre and Square

Look forward to keeping your tummies full!!

Don’t go thirsty!!

There will also be a bar at the event so you will not go thirsty. We will be open from 5pm on the Friday so when you come to register you can cool off with a pint of beer from the tap , or rev up with a vodka and Red Bull!

Cheers!!

After party 2005

This year the after event function will be held in the Aberfeldy Town Hall. This venue has the capability to hold 400 people so we can give it a proper thrash!

Entry to the boater X party on Sunday 28th for the competitors is included with your entry fee and additional tickets are available at £10 per head.

There will be live music and we have secured the services of the Jimi McRae Band who rocked the Castle Menzies last year when they were absolutely fantastic!!

So bring your partners, dancing boots, kilts and good energies and prepare for a fantastic night.
